Healthcare Professionals Demand:

Ceasefire Now!
Stop the Genocide in Gaza

Healthcare professionals with firsthand experience in Gaza are urgently calling for an immediate ceasefire and an arms embargo. As the violence continues, children, pregnant women, and even healthcare workers are being targeted in direct attacks.

We invite you to read our letter and add your signature to demand an end to this humanitarian crisis.

Medical Professionals Demand an Immediate Ceasefire

Since October 7, 2023, dozens of American medical professionals have been working on the ground in Gaza, witnessing the unimaginable: direct attacks on children, pregnant women, and fellow healthcare workers.

“About half of the injuries I took care of were in young kids. We saw a lot of so-called splinter injuries that were very, very small to the point that you easily missed them while examining a patient. Much, much smaller than anything I’ve seen before but they caused tremendous damage on the inside.”

A Call for Immediate Action

We believe our government can still change course. We call for a ceasefire now, and for an arms embargo on Israel and all Palestinian armed groups until a ceasefire is reached, the blockade of Gaza is lifted, and a political resolution is negotiated.

“We have never seen cruelty like Israel’s genocide in Gaza. The magnitude of injury caused by the U.S. bombs that Israel is using is really dramatic. These weapons are — the blast effect is incredible. They throw the environment itself through these patients.”

United States’ Role in Perpetuating Violence

Our experiences underscore a grim reality: the United States' ongoing military, economic, and diplomatic support for Israel is perpetuating a cycle of violence, with devastating consequences for civilians in Gaza.

“Add in the incredible population density, the overwhelming numbers of badly maimed children and amputees, the constant hum of drones, the smell of explosives and gunpowder — and it’s no wonder UNICEF has declared the Gaza Strip as 'the world’s most dangerous place to be a child.”

We refuse to forget what we witnessed, and we will not accept that our own government is funding these attacks.

Letter to President Biden and Vice President Harris

July 25, 2024

Re: American physicians’ and nurses’ observations from the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023

“Gaza was the first time I held a baby’s brains in my hand. The first of many.”

Dr. Mark Perlmutter
Orthopedic and hand surgeon

“Every day I saw babies die. They had been born healthy. Their mothers were so malnourished that they could not breastfeed, and we lacked formula or clean water to feed them, so they starved.”

Asma Taha
Pediatric nurse practitioner

“I’ve never seen such horrific injuries, on such a massive scale, with so few resources. Bombs are cutting down women and children by the thousands. Their mutilated bodies are a monument to cruelty.”

Dr. Feroze Sidhwa
Trauma and critical care surgeon

“I saw so many stillbirths and maternal deaths that could have been easily prevented if the hospitals had been functioning normally.”

Dr. Thalia Pachiyannakis
Obstetrician and gynecologist

Dear President Joseph R. Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Dr. Jill Biden,

We are forty-five American physicians, surgeons, and nurses who have volunteered in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. We worked with various nongovernmental organizations and the World Health Organization in hospitals throughout the Strip.

In addition to our medical and surgical expertise, many of us have a public health background, as well as experience working in humanitarian and conflict zones, including Ukraine during the brutal Russian invasion. Some of us are veterans of the United States Armed Forces. We are a multifaith and multiethnic group.

None of us support the horrors committed on October 7.

We are not politicians. We do not claim to have all the answers.

We are simply physicians and nurses who cannot remain silent about what we saw in Gaza. Every day that we continue supplying weapons and munitions to Israel is another day that women are shredded by our bombs and children are murdered with our bullets.

President Biden and Vice President Harris, we urge you: end this madness now!

“We have not had the heart to tell these children how their families died: burned until they resembled blistered hotdogs more than human beings, shredded to pieces such that they can only be buried in mass graves.”
